Global Symbols - Local Stories - United in One Faith

Townsville Diocese Saturday 8 - Sunday 16th September, 2007.

CrossIn 1984 Pope John Paul 11 entrusted a 3.8 m high wooden cross to the youth of the world He told them that they were "to carry it as a symbol of Christ's love form Humanity". Since then it has travelled the world, millions of young people have experienced it's message for the love of God for all people. It is a central element of all World Youth Days and a vital part pf the preparation for Sydney 2008.

The national tour of the WYD Cross and Icon will go through every diocese, in every state, in Australia. This will be your chance to feel the spirit of WYD, to add your own steps and prayers to the 21 year-long pilgrimage of young people who have carried these symbols of Christ's love for humanity in every corner of the world.

An Indigenous Message Stick will accompany the Cross and Icon in Australia. The Message Stick is an invitation to the indigenous youth of Australia to come to World Youth Day in July 2008.
