World Youth Day is not a single day but a week long festival comprising a number of large scale events. WYD brings together hundreds of thousands of young people from all around the world who have accepted the invitation from the Holy Father to gather and celebrate their faith together. Around 200,000 young people are expected to register for the week’s festivities in Sydney next year, which will include catechesis sessions, festivals, concerts and liturgies.

Young People in PrayerOpening Mass of welcome celebrated by Cardinal Pell followed by concert

Wednesday 16 - Friday 18 July
Catechesis (teaching) sessions every morning and festival events into the afternoon and evening

Thursday, 17 July
Arrival and welcome of The Holy Father on the Sydney Harbour

Friday, 18 July (evening)
Stations of the Cross – travelling through the city and finishing in St Mary’s Cathedral

Saturday, 19 July
Pilgrimage walk to Randwick racecourse, site of Closing Mass, evening Vigil with The Holy Father and sleep out 'under the stars'

Sunday, 20 July
Closing Mass and concluding events
