You are Welcome in Townsville! The Catholic Community looks forward to welcoming International World Youth Day Pilgrims in Townsville Queensland for the Days in the Diocese. The current DRAFT program for the Townsville Days in the DIocese includes: Australian Indigenous culture through our cultural centre, a visit to Billabong Sanctuary to give you the quintessential Australian wildlife experience with crocodiles, koalas etc our Reef HQ which is the largest living coral reef aquarium in the southern hemisphere our Museum of Tropical Queensland which will give pilgrims some history of the area A day trip to magnetic island which is a short 20 minute ferry ride off our coast for a day time beach party.
Along with all this will be having parish events and gathered events (in our newly refurbished Cathedral) to celebrate our faith and engage our visitors in the life of the church in Townsville. We are hoping to highlight the natural beauty of creation, our environment and the history of our land. We are in tropical north Queensland where our July temperatures range from a minimum of 18 degrees Celsius to a max of 26 degrees Celsius. When our Days in the Diocese guests arrive in Townsville we hope at this stage to billet them in parishes (in at least pairs) - so that one pilgrimage group is billeted within one Townsville parish. This would be at no cost to our visitors with all meals and activities being provided. Our closest international airport is Cairns, which is a 45 minute plane ride or a 4 hour bus ride north of Townsville. There are flights from Townsville to Sydney we are a 2 ¾ hour plane flight from Sydney. For more information please fill in and sumbit the form below. Our World Youth Day coordinator Rachel will contact you. May God Bless your WYD08 preparations, we can't wait to meet you! |
